6 Indian Food Blogs That Will Make You Hungry

Food blogging in India is at its most creative and exciting phase yet. On a mission to find some of the best Indian food blogs, we decided to go to people who know the food blogging world best — the bloggers themselves. We started by picking one of the oldest and best-known food bloggers in the country  Shaheen Peerbhai and followed the breadcrumbs from there. We ended up on a food-blogger trail that we are excited to share with you — some old favourites thrown in with new, yet-to-be-discovered gems. If there are any blogs that you'd like to recommend, we'd love to hear from you too. Drop us a line in the comments below.

Purple Foodie by Shaheen Peerbhai:

We love the minimalist feel of the blog. Besides being a wonderful resource for bakers (those of you in Mumbai, check out the Baking in Bombay post), Shaheen has an uncanny ability to take you with her on her travels around the world through her beautiful photographs and writing. Our favourite so far is her guide to Oaxaca, which takes you through vibrant markets in the city.

Her recipe for Spaghetti alle Vongole is simple, elegant and delicious.

Shaheen recommends The Malabar Tea Room by Kathija Hashim and Aysha Tanya:

"The content is beautiful and original. It stands out in a sea of blogs with nothing distinct or special about them. I enjoy the whole package of food, writing and photography."

Aysha recommends Belly over Mind by Ankiet Gulabani:

"It's not everyday that you find a food blogger who is a passionate researcher as well. Whether it's scouting for new ingredients, or finding Indian substitutes for hard-to-access ingredients, I have never left Belly over Mind without learning something new."

"The post Two Types of Rice gives you ideas on how to dress up a boring weekday meal."

Ankiet recommends Playful Cooking by Kankana Saxena:

"Kankana is a mother who still finds the time to birth ideas that eventually translate into stunner dishes. This is complemented by simple effortless writing and great food photography. She gets exactly how chaotic the home cook's life can get, and this comes across in the posts."

"I love her Thandai custard, back from Holi last year and there's this amazing sounding molgapodi and fish soup with orzo in it that I can't wait to try next."

Kankana recommends MallikaBasu.com by Mallika Basu:

"There are a lot of things I adore about Mallika. Her personality, her passion for food that comes across so transparently, and how beautifully she articulates the memories behind every dish. Her videos are extremely clear making it easy for anyone to cook a feast. It’s easy and fuss-free cooking  just the kind of cooking I enjoy too."

"My favourite dish from her blog would be Bengali fish curry – Macher Jhol. It’s a dish I grew up eating quite often and relate to."

Mallika recommends Monsoon Spice by Sia Krishna:

"She started her blog in 2006 as Spice Corner, later renaming it. She writes about cooking for her 'li'l dumpling' and husband. Her writing is always evocative and pictures, proper food porn, that never fail to make you hungry!"

"Her paneer recipes are amazing, I would fully recommend it."

Sia recommends Turmeric n' Spice by Simi Jois:

"My favourite food blog is Turmeric n' Spice by Simi. Apart from the stories that Simi weaves around the recipes, her keen eye capturing food in a new light is very refreshing. Her food stories and food photographs are a class apart and makes her blog one-of-a-kind."

"My favourite post from her blog is the traditional recipe of  Holige/Obbattu ."
